If you are planning a golf trip to the Phoenix area you’re in for a treat and you’re definitely not alone. More than 2 million golfers tee up in metro Phoenix / Scottdale / Mesa area each year. Golf spectators also rank Phoenix Golf Courses and Scottsdale Golf Courses at the top of their lists. The PGA Tour's best-attended tournament, the Phoenix Open (now called the FBR Open), is held each year at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale, and the LPGA women compete in the Safeway PING Tournament in Phoenix each March.

If you think you are going to find only desert target golf here, you’re in for a surprise as well. You can mix up your rounds with courses varying in difficulty, course type and vintage… from classy resort layouts to raw desert golf experiences, from flat links style to spectacular mountain layouts!

As our golf course map indicates, this is a golf area that sprawls over many miles of desert city. For example, if you are at the Boulders Resort, north of Scottsdale in Carefree.. and you wanted to play one of the great courses at the Troon Wirlwind Resort at Wildhorse Pass in Chandler, you could be spending an hour or more on the freeways each way! We have put together some suggestions for your golf group that divides the area into a Phoenix North, Phoenix South and Phoenix Central packages with some suggestions for resort accommodation or economy accommodation depending on your preference.

Historians disagree about the meaning and derivation of the place name Arizona.  What is now southern Arizona and northern México was known by the Spanish as the Pimería Alta, or Upper Pima Country after the natives of the area whom the Spanish called Pima.  Within this area was a district in what is now southern Pima Co., AZ and northern Sonora, México that the Spanish called Arizonac, Arissona or Arizona.

Because elevations in Arizona range from 70 feet on the Colorado River to 12,633 feet on Humphreys Peak, one of the San Francisco Peaks, it is possible, on any given day, for the coldest or hottest temperature in the United States to be recorded in Arizona.

The coldest recorded temperature in Arizona was -40 degrees recorded at Hawley Lake on January 7, 1971. The hottest recorded temperature in Arizona was 128 degrees recorded in Lake Havasu City on June 29, 1994. For more information, see: Arizona Climate Extremes. For additional information about the climate in Lake Havasu City, at Hawley Lake and at other locations in Arizona, see Arizona Climate Summaries at the Western Regional Climate Center site.

The temperature in Phoenix reached 122 degrees on June 26, 1990. For additional information about the weather in Phoenix, see the National Weather Service site.
